Targa Cecina: a town in celebration
Established in 1929, Targa Cecina is one of the town’s most beloved traditions. From the first to the second Sunday in September, the town centre comes alive with themed floats, performances, music and events for the whole community.
On the first Sunday, the floats parade through the streets in the evening, lighting up the town and creating a special end-of-summer atmosphere. The most eagerly awaited event is the running race between Cecina’s seven districts. Residents and visitors wear their district’s colours and cheer on the athletes as they compete to win the famous bronze plaque.
The festival also celebrates Cecina’s connection with the Spanish town of Sagunto during an evening inspired by the Fallas tradition. For the occasion, the Spanish delegation and local Targaioli prepare a large paella to share with the whole community. It’s an event filled with tradition, community spirit and fun.
