Cala Violina: between nature and the sea

Cala Violina: the beach that sings

Set within the Bandite di Scarlino Nature Reserve, Cala Violina is one of the most captivating beaches in the Maremma. Its name comes from its fine quartz sand, which can produce a sound similar to violin strings when walked upon. According to local legend, this melody was left by mermaids to guide sailors safely towards the shore.
The cove can only be reached on foot, by bicycle or by sea. A trail through the Mediterranean vegetation begins near the Pian d’Alma car park, while a longer route from Puntone di Scarlino also passes Cala Martina.
Summer access is limited to protect the natural environment, so always check the official website for current availability, prices and booking requirements. Bring water and everything you need for the day, as facilities are limited. Nearby, you can enjoy hiking, snorkelling and a visit to the medieval village of Scarlino.
